The Sterling Heights Police Department protects the nearly 135,000 residents of Sterling Heights, a northern suburb of Detroit. After a serious accident involving one of its officers at a local intersection, the department recognized they had to make a change. The incident showed that lights and sirens alone were not enough to reach today’s drivers. Department leaders chose to adopt digital alerting technology to get warnings to motorists sooner, reduce crash risk, and better protect officers working on the road.
