Reading Progress:

The official TIM Heroes, Inc. Move Over Awareness license plates are now on the road in Pennsylvania, putting a simple message directly in front of the drivers who need to see it: Move Over, Slow Down, Save Lives.

The plates were created by Todd Leiss and the team at TIM Heroes as another way to bring attention to the people working alongside live traffic every day. Firefighters, police officers, EMS providers, tow operators, and roadway workers all depend on passing drivers to recognize the danger ahead and give them enough room to work safely. The plate puts that responsibility somewhere drivers already look every day.

Remembering Those We Lost

For HAAS Alert, there was an opportunity to do something more for the families who have already experienced the consequences when that protection fails. We are covering the full cost of memorial Move Over Awareness plates for eligible Pennsylvania families of first responders and roadside workers who have lost someone in a roadside crash.

For a family that has lost someone on the roadway, a personalized plate carries a different kind of weight. It puts their loved one's name back into the same environment where they worked, while giving every driver who sees it a reminder of why Move Over laws exist in the first place. It is a memorial, but it is also a message, and that message can travel thousands of miles over the course of a year.

A Reminder Before It’s Needed

Todd has spent years making sure the people behind roadside fatalities are not reduced to statistics. His work in Traffic Incident Management and his role with ResponderSafety.com have kept him closely involved in responder safety and the Slow Down, Move Over movement. He has also been a longtime friend and partner of HAAS Alert.

That history makes this partnership particularly meaningful to us. The Move Over plate takes a message that is often associated with an active roadside incident and puts it in front of drivers during their everyday lives. A driver does not have to be approaching a crash or seeing emergency lights to encounter the reminder. It is there during the morning commute, sitting in traffic, parked at the grocery store, or traveling down the highway.

The goal is to make the behavior familiar before a driver needs to act on it.

Carrying Their Names Forward

Keeping roadside workers safe takes more than any single intervention. Lights and sirens matter. Cones, arrow boards, high-visibility clothing, enforcement, and Move Over laws matter. Reaching drivers before they encounter a roadside incident matters too.

The plates put that message into everyday life, where drivers can see it on the morning commute, sitting in traffic, or traveling down the highway. The goal is to make the behavior familiar before a driver needs to act on it.

For the families receiving memorial plates, that message carries even more weight. The names on those plates belong to people who went to work on or alongside the road and did not make it home. We cannot change that, but we can make sure they are remembered and use their stories to help prevent another family from experiencing the same loss.

The Move Over Awareness plates are available as standard, personalized, and souvenir plates. Eligible families who have lost a loved one in a roadside crash can use the dedicated Survivor & Family ordering page to apply for a memorial plate at no cost.
