Responder-to-Responder™ digital alerting

Preventing collisions between first responders

Timely Hazard Alerts

What is Responder-to-Responder digital alerting?

Responder-to-Responder (R2R™) digital alerts for public safety fleets are electronic notifications that let first responders know when other Safety Cloud®-equipped emergency vehicles are actively responding and approaching the same intersection as your vehicle. This service is similar to HAAS Alert’s digital alerting service, but delivers alerts to responders rather than civilian drivers.

Please note that you must have a digital alerting subscription before you can add R2R to your Safety Cloud service. You cannot have R2R alerting by itself.

How to activate Responder-to-Responder digital alerting

When you've added R2R alerting to your subscription, HAAS Alert will supply you with LED indicators to mount to the pillars or dash of your apparatus. After those are installed, you'll automatically start sending and receiving R2R alerts as soon as your emergency lights are activated and you're en-route.

How do I receive R2R alerts?

You’ll receive R2R alerts through your LED indicator. When you're approaching the same intersection or turn as another Safety Cloud-equipped apparatus, your LED indicator will start flashing. This will give you 10-15 seconds to take the appropriate action to avoid a potential collision at the intersection.

If you are responding in tandem with another unit, the system will recognize that. You will not receive alerts in that situation.

The benefits of R2R digital alerting

R2R goes beyond digital alerting. It's a collision avoidance tool designed with first responder safety in mind.

1

Better situational awareness

10-15 seconds advanced warning gives your crew time to make more informed decisions that allow you to swiftly reach incident scenes.

2

Inter-agency coordination

When you are aware of approaching fire, medical, or police apparatus, you'll be able to better coordinate your responses.

3

Peace of mind

En-route vehicles are required to travel at high speeds. R2R alerts provide warning to keep your crew safe and avoid collisions with other emergency vehicles.

Data shows with 95% confidence that the use of Responder-to-Responder digital alerting led to a reduction in speed.

"Look at history. There have been so many cases of police cars and fire trucks colliding. Why would you not want to do something to possibly prevent it?"
