Warren Fire Department Sends “Move Over” Alerts to Stellantis and Volkswagen Drivers

Safety Cloud® by HAAS Alert automatically sends out “Slow Down Move Over” alerts to Stellantis and Volkswagen drivers

Warren, Michigan (Feb. 21, 2025) – In an effort to enhance road safety and to protect firefighters and the motoring public, Warren Fire Department is now integrating HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud digital alerting, into their fleet of fire apparatus, EMS squads and staff vehicles. This innovative safety system delivers real-time “Slow Down, Move Over” alerts to the in-dash infotainment systems of compatible Stellantis and Volkswagen vehicles. Additionally, users of free navigation apps Waze and Apple maps will also receive Safety Cloud alerts. Warren Fire Department-equipped vehicles automatically begin broadcasting alerts as soon as emergency lights and sirens are activated. Nearby and approaching drivers will receive alerts up to 30 seconds before coming in contact with equipped emergency vehicles.

“I’m so relieved that Safety Cloud exists,” said Chief Orrin Ferguson. “In order to minimize response times to emergency incidents fire apparatus and vehicles must travel at or above posted speed limits on roads. The increased speeds create additional risks for firefighters and the motoring public who we share the roads with. Although, we do everything we can to avoid automobile accidents, every emergency incident response creates opportunities for motor vehicle accidents. I believe we have a responsibility to do everything we can to reduce the potential for accidents involving our apparatus and vehicles, but we can’t do it alone. We need more automakers to install these types of safety systems in their vehicles to reduce collisions between emergency vehicles and the motoring public.”

Even though Michigan’s “Slow Down, Move Over” law already requires drivers to slow down and move over when encountering emergency vehicles, traditional lights and sirens only give drivers a few seconds to react. Safety Cloud boosts driver awareness and compliance with mover over laws by providing a preemptive warning, facilitating safer responses for emergency vehicles. This preemptive measure is proven to significantly reduce collision risks by up to 90% compared to emergency vehicles relying solely on lights and sirens, safeguarding both first responders and the motoring public.

“The mission of Warren Fire Department is to protect and serve the citizens, visitors and businesses to the city of Warren.” Stated Warren Fire Commissioner Wilburt “Skip” McAdams. Safety Cloud improves our ability to protect and serve the motoring public through the transmission of the “Slow Down, Move Over” warning to equipped vehicles and people using the Waze and Apple Navigation apps, which should improve our ability to safely respond to emergency incidents by providing a cross section of the motoring public with the notification that an emergency vehicle is nearby or approaching. Wilburt “Skip” McAdams further stated that “Our partnership with HAAS Alert demonstrates our commitment to protecting and serving the motoring public.”
