Pigeon Forge Fire Department Now Sends Slow Down, Move Over Alerts
The Pigeon Forge Fire Department said it can now send digital alerts to some drivers telling them to slow down and move over.
PFFD said it has equipped its fleet with HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud digital alerting, meaning that more drivers will now receive alerts to slow down and move over directly to their vehicles.
Currently, compatible Volkswagens, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM vehicles can receive the alerts. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz drivers who have opted into the Emergency Vehicle Alert Beta Program can also receive the digital alerts.
Fire department officials explained that drivers are already required by law to slow down and move over when encountering emergency vehicles and other hazards, but traditional lights and sirens only give drivers a few seconds to react.
With the safety alerts, drivers can get up to 30 more seconds of preemptive warning and, in turn, facilitate safer responses.
“The Pigeon Forge Fire Department is eager to spread awareness about road safety habits and the life-saving benefits of Safety Cloud digital ahead of the holidays,” the department said. “When more drivers are alerted to the presence of first responders, roadway workers, and other hazards, everyone gets to go home safely and enjoy the holidays with loved ones.
