Safety Cloud® in Mercedes-Benz Emergency Vehicle Alert Beta Program

Sep 19, 2024

HAAS Alert is thrilled to announce that Safety Cloud® is part of the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Vehicle Alert Beta Program! Take a look at the official announcement from Magnus Östberg, Chief Software Officer at Mercedes-Benz AG, below.

In recent posts, I’ve talked about our Car-to-X technology and how it enables vehicles to receive and share data in real-time. On that subject, I am excited to share that in the United States, our program now includes a trial for our new Emergency Vehicle Alert system.

Picture the scene: how often have you been driving along and heard an emergency vehicle siren but can’t quite pinpoint where it’s coming from? Or, how many times have you turned a corner and unexpectedly encountered a roadside incident with emergency medical crews? These unnerving experiences can lead to unsafe situations as drivers fail to see or anticipate emergency vehicles until it’s too late.

To remedy this, we’ve teamed up with V2X Safety experts HAAS Alert and its Safety Cloud® platform who partners with thousands of public safety agencies across the country. As soon as participating emergency vehicles activate their warning lights, a signal is received by the Mercedes-Benz Car-to-X cloud platform. Depending on the number of incidents nearby, the system monitors an area around the vehicle between 3-9 km. As soon as a nearby emergency vehicle is detected, it appears on the navigation screen and the optional Head-Up Display. As you approach the emergency vehicle, a visual and acoustic alert provides additional warning to aid in safe navigation.

To take part in the Beta, simply enroll in the program. To find out if your vehicle is eligible, open the Mercedes me App, click on the menu button and you will see a list of available Betas. Then toggle the Emergency Vehicle Alerts button to participate.
