LPFD Implements Driver Safety Alerts

PLEASANTON, CA — The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department has implemented an alert notification system in its vehicles that will send real-time safety notifications to drivers approaching emergency responders.
The LPFD began implementing Safety Cloud by HAAS Alert earlier this year, and since then, over 86,500 vehicles have been notified in Livermore and Pleasanton, according to a department news release. The alerts have helped in a number of ways, according to LPFD, including protecting the public and first responders, and helping drivers comply with Move Over laws to reduce the likelihood of secondary collisions near roadside incidents.
Drivers can receive alerts through Waze, Apple Maps, and in the information screens of newer cars. Safety Cloud is including more vehicles and navigation apps, so more people will be able to receive them in the future.
“We’re happy to be able to add another level of protection for our firefighters so they can respond to incidents as safely as possible,” LPFD Deputy Chief Aaron Lacey said in a statement. “This service connects and protects the public and our crews in the field and the drivers around them by giving motorists extra time to see us, slow down, and move over safely. As always, we appreciate drivers for watching out for us on the road and abiding by the laws that ensure we all get to our destinations safely.”
