HAAS System Allows Grand Isle Fire to Notify Motorists During Emergencies

Mar 11, 2025

A new safety system aims to get Vermont motorists out of the way of emergency vehicles.

If you're traveling through Grand Isle, you can now expect your music to be shut off and for an alert to pop up on your screen, warning you that an emergency vehicle needs to pass you.

The Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Department recently installed an HAAS alert system in its fire engine that will automatically notify drivers in Chrystler, Dodge, Jeep, Volkswagen and Ram vehicles on the roads.

The department said that modern vehicles are more insulated from noise and distracted drivers are more common, which makes emergency vehicles more susceptible to crashes as they attempt to respond quickly.

Grand Isle is the fifth department in Vermont to install this system.
