Future Bowling Green Fire Truck to Alert Traffic Using App Feature
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A new fire truck and engine design are in production for the Bowling Green Fire Department.
The department announced Friday that the new models will replace older equipment, keeping the older models aside when the newer fleet is being serviced or when multiple fires call for a bigger response.
The department states one of the newest features will be the HAAS Alert System.
This will send real time digital alerts from a transponder mounted in the cab to nearby motorists using the Waze Navigation App, according to the department. As a result, those in traffic with the Waze App will receive a notification on their mobile phone that the emergency vehicle is approaching.
The department says this could help provide more time for traffic to slow down and move over for emergency responses.
Once production of the two trucks is complete, they will be the only fire vehicles currently in the City of Bowling Green limits using this technology, BGFD states.
News 40 will continue to provide further updates as they are released.
