Michelin ONCall Alerts Drivers to Roadside Incidents Using Safety Cloud®

Feb 4, 2025

GREENVILLE, S.C., Feb. 04, 2025 – To help improve highway and personal safety during emergency roadside events, Michelin North America, Inc. and HAAS Alert are deploying Safety Cloud alerts on Michelin ONCall emergency roadside service (ERS) events for trucking fleet customers in the U.S. and Canada.

When an ERS event is initiated by a  driver via the Michelin ONCall service, a Safety Cloud alert will notify approaching drivers who are using popular navigation apps like Apple Maps and Waze, as well as native, in-vehicle alerts of popular auto brands like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, to “slow down and move over.” This alert is intended to capture the driver's attention up to 30 seconds before reaching the incident, aiming to enhance the safety of both truck drivers and technicians working on the breakdown.

“Since 2009, Michelin ONCall has responded to almost 3 million roadside emergency service calls in the U.S. and Canada,” said Ed Quigley, Director of Sales & Operations, Connected Solutions at Michelin North America, Inc. “That’s why this partnership with HAAS Alert is so important.  We want to help improve the safety of everyone on the highway, including commercial truck drivers and service providers, as well as consumer vehicle drivers like you and me.”

According to a 2021 study by Purdue University, digital alerts help reduce hard braking incidents by up to 80 percent. A 2021 study by the U.S. Highway Administration also confirmed the importance of early detection and warning for drivers encountering emergency roadside safety events.

"This new product is designed to help provide protection to commercial vehicle operators by alerting approaching drivers who are using pertinent navigation apps, through Safety Cloud until help arrives," said Tom Parbs, VP of Sales at HAAS Alert.

Launched in 2009, Michelin ONCall provides an end-to-end solution for breakdowns, with emphasis on real-time event reporting, a nationwide network of service providers, single source solutions, and a 2-hour roll-time target beginning at the time of the service request.

Michelin ONCall has successfully serviced almost 3 million tire and mechanical ERS events. For more information on Michelin ONCall, please visit our website.
