With International Activation, HAAS Alert & Stellantis Break New Ground in V2X

Jun 27, 2023

The North American activation of Safety Cloud alerting on Stellantis vehicles is a major breakthrough for cross-border connectivity and safety.

Last month, global automaker Stellantis announced that more than 1.8 million of its vehicles are now receiving digital alerts from Safety Cloud, directly in the infotainment screens of the vehicle. The company's EVAS (Emergency Vehicle Alerting System) feature is available on 2018-and-newer Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler vehicles across North America.

“The widespread deployment of EVAS in North America demonstrates how Stellantis is harnessing the power of V2X connectivity and in-vehicle technology to make mobility safer for our customers,” said Yves Bonnefont, Stellantis Chief Software Officer. “Care for our customers that is second to none – in every market where we sell – is the foundation of our transformation to a mobility tech company. We’re proud to be the first global automaker to make V2X digital alerting a standard safety feature for our connected customers and are continuously looking to expand its capabilities.”

As the largest-ever deployment of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology, the announcement is a big deal for the world of connected cars - but not just because of it's volume. The North American activation of EVAS on Stellantis vehicles is also the first-ever activation of a unified V2X solution that operates across international borders - in this case, between the United States and Canada.

In the past, automaker V2X pilots and deployments have been necessarily limited to specific countries, communities, and corridors, due to the wide range of technologies and solutions being explored. This meant that even when these technologies worked, drivers could only benefit from them in specific geographies and areas.

The launch of EVAS service in both the United States and Canada is setting a new precedent in V2X, enabling a connected vehicle feature that will work for drivers in both countries as they travel across borders. This functionality breaks down these geographical barriers to road safety, offering the first-ever internationally compatible V2X solution that uses regional communication networks and capabilities for true interoperability.

By harnessing cellular network to power V2X capabilities, Safety Cloud makes true international functionality available for automakers like Stellantis. This development is about more than just connecting vehicles and infrastructure—it’s a significant stride towards creating a universally connected and intelligent transportation ecosystem that benefits drivers everywhere, and a demonstration of V2X technology's vast potential of V2X technology in transforming our roadways into more connected, safer environments for all users.

As a testament to the transformative power of this technology, we point to the recent activation with the South Central Ontario chapter of the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) during their National Slow Down Move Over Day. Our partnership is helping to deliver critical safety alerts across Ontario, demonstrating the lifesaving value of digital alerts for responders and roadside assistance fleets. Read more about our CAA activation here.

Our collaborations and partnerships are fundamentally motivated by our steadfast commitment to equity. HAAS Alert believes that the benefits of this revolutionary technology should be able to reach across borders and reach drivers everywhere, bringing a level of connectivity previously inaccessible to entire communities. In partnership with automakers, organizations, and fleets everywhere, we're working to democratize road safety and make it a reality for everyone, regardless of their location.

Our work with Stellantis shows our shared commitment to getting lifesaving V2X technology into vehicles on the road today, encouraging safer, more connected roads across North America and, ultimately, the world. The future of transportation safety and efficiency is here, and we're just getting warmed up. Stay tuned for the next chapter in this exciting journey.
